Diocesan-Level Carol Singing Competition held at Honavar

The Laity Commission of the Diocese of Karwar, through its active wing, the Catholic Association of the Diocese of Karwar (CADK), successfully organized the Diocesan-Level Carol Singing Competition on Saturday, 20th December, 2025, at Pratibhodaya, Honavar.

Teams that secured prizes at the deanery-level competitions were eligible to participate at the diocesan level. Accordingly, eight teams qualified and competed in the finals held at Honavar, presenting melodious and spiritually enriching Christmas carols.

The program began with a message by Mr. Manjunath Naik, a Congress leader, who highlighted the significance of the month of December as a time of love, warmth, and remembrance centered on Christmas. He joyfully shared that his daughter was born on Christmas Day, adding a personal touch to his message.

Renowned senior journalist Mr. G. U. Bhat of Honavar delivered a meaningful Christmas message, praising the commendable contributions of the Christian community, especially in the fields of education, social service, and sponsorship programs. He particularly appreciated the selfless service of priests and religious sisters, notably Sr. Maria Goretti, and remarked that “Christians are for others.”

Rev. Fr. Richard Rodrigues emphasized in his address that carol singing is a powerful platform to bring out the talents of the youth and reminded the gathering that the youth are the true wealth of the nation. Rev. Fr. Benjamin D’Souza, Dean of Honavar Deanery and one of the judges, shared his observations on group singing and highlighted the dedication and discipline required to build a quality choir. The Spiritual Director of CADK, Rev. Fr. Lancy Rodrigues, underlined that the true celebration of Christmas lies in experiencing and living the presence of Christ in our midst.

Also present on the dais were CADK President Mr. George Fernandes, Vice-President Mr. Stephen Rodrigues, General Secretary Mr. Clement Gudinho, and Honavar Deanery Coordinator Mr. Henry Lima. The program was compered by Mr. Jacob Fernandes. Several dignitaries were felicitated with shawls and mementos. The competition was judged by Rev. Fr. Benjamin D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Sachin D’Souza, and Rev. Fr. Cyprian D’Silva.

The results of the competition were as follows: First Prize: Infant Jesus Church, Agasebagil; Second Prize: St. Joseph’s Church, Lower Kasarkod; Third Prize: Our Lady of Miracles Church, Haliyal. The event concluded on a joyful note, fostering the true spirit of Christmas through music, fellowship, and faith.
