Chapati & Roti Making Unit and Food Processing Initiatives Inaugurated in Kumta Deanery

The chapati and roti-making machine and dehydration unit for ABC malt powder production were inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, in Kumta Deanery. This initiative stands as a fruitful outcome of the training program on food production organized by Sr. Mabel Pinto, Coordinator of the Women’s Commission of the Diocese of Karwar. The training aimed at empowering women with practical skills and encouraging self-reliance through small-scale entrepreneurship.

Following the training, the resource person, Dr. Nivea Gomes, extended her support by guiding the participants through the necessary procedures and documentation. Inspired and strengthened by this accompaniment, Mrs. Natal, Mrs. Asparance, and Mrs. Rita from Kadle Parish courageously came together to begin their venture.

In addition, a dehydration unit for ABC malt powder production was initiated at Manaki, Kumta, by Mrs. Sonia Gonsalves, marking another significant step in promoting local food processing initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, the bishop appreciated the efforts of the women and described the initiative as “a spark” that has the potential to spread across the entire diocese. He encouraged more women to come forward, participate in such training programs, and take up similar entrepreneurial ventures for their growth and empowerment.

Fr. Anthony Rodrigues, Dean of Kumta, along with other dignitaries, was present on the occasion and expressed his support for such initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and self-sustainability within the Church and society. They honored the bishop, Sr. Mabel, and Dr. Nivia as a sign of gratitude. The women expressed their gratitude to Rev. Fr. Anecletus Dmello, Parish Priest of Manaki Parish, and Rev. Fr. Santosh, Parish Priest of Kadle Parish. The program stands as a testimony to the Church’s commitment to holistic development, fostering both spiritual growth and economic empowerment among the faithful.
