Bhatkal Deanery Youth Walking Pilgrimage – Via Spei (Way of Hope)
The ICYM Bhatkal Deanery organized Via Spei – The Way of Hope, a meaningful Lenten walking pilgrimage for the youth on 21st March 2026, with the enthusiastic participation of over 200 young faithful. The pilgrimage commenced from Kulimane, Idugunji, fostering a deep spirit of prayer, unity, and spiritual reflection.
The initiative was carried out under the able leadership of the Deanery Youth Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Vilet Fernandes, with the wholehearted support of the deanery office bearers.
The program began with an invocation to the Holy Spirit led by the deanery dean, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Silva. The participants prayerfully recited the Rosary, led by Ms. Presley D’Souza, Girl Representative, followed by the Way of the Cross. An introduction to the devotion was given by Mr. Annchrist Fernandes, President of ICYM Bhatkal Deanery, and the opening prayer was led by Rev. Fr. Vilet Fernandes.
The Stations of the Cross were thoughtfully distributed among the various units, ensuring active participation of all. The concluding prayers were led by Rev. Fr. Rohan Fernandes, Adding spiritual depth to the pilgrimage, the diocesan youth director, Rev. Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, delivered an inspiring reflection on embracing hope and faith in one’s journey with Christ.
The devotional atmosphere was further enriched by the soulful choir led by the Lower Kasarkod Unit, which accompanied the pilgrims throughout, uplifting their hearts in prayer.
The pilgrimage culminated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Molkod, where the participants were warmly welcomed by Rev. Fr. Walter D’Mello. The Holy Eucharist was solemnly celebrated by Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Silva, who presided over the Mass. The homily was delivered by Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza. The Eucharistic celebration was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Vilet Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Rohan Fernandes, and Rev. Fr. Silvan Rodrigues. The liturgy was reverently carried out by the council and core members.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Melisha Fernandes, Liturgy Secretary, followed by breakfast served to all participants.
The pilgrimage proved to be a spiritually enriching experience, helping the youth deepen their faith, renew their hope in Christ, and strengthen their commitment to living Gospel values.
