Awareness Programme on Media, Cybercrime and Cyber Security held at St. Anne’s Church, Binaga

The Commission for Communication of the Diocese organized an awareness programme on media, cybercrime, and cybersecurity at St. Anne’s Church, Binaga on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

The session was conducted by Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Secretary of the Commission for Communication. A total of 22 participants attended the programme, which focused on helping children and youth understand the role of media in daily life and the importance of staying safe in the digital world.

During his presentation, Fr. Stewart explained the meaning and purpose of media, highlighting both its advantages and disadvantages. He also shared the Catholic Church’s teaching on the responsible use of media, encouraging participants to use modern communication tools wisely, ethically, and in a manner that promotes human dignity and Gospel values.

In the second part of the programme, Fr. Stewart spoke about cyber crime and cyber security. He explained common online threats and offered practical guidelines on how individuals can protect themselves from cyber fraud, identity theft, online scams, and other digital dangers. The participants were encouraged to be vigilant and responsible while using social media and internet platforms.

An interactive question-and-answer session followed, during which Fr. Stewart clarified various doubts raised by the participants regarding media usage and online safety.

At the conclusion of the programme, Fr. Victor Dias, Parish Priest of St. Anne’s Church, expressed his gratitude to Fr. Stewart Fernandes for conducting the informative session and for creating awareness about responsible media usage and cyber security among the faithful.

The programme proved to be both educational and timely, helping participants become more informed and responsible users of media and digital technology.
