The Karwar Diocesan Golden Jubilee Planning Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, 23 July 2026, at Puneeth Sadan, Shirwad, marking another significant step in the preparations for the diocese’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations (1977–2027).

The meeting was attended by 25 participants, including the deans, priests, and lay representatives from across the diocese. Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, presided over the meeting.

The programme began with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Ronald D’Souza, followed by a warm welcome by Rev. Fr. Baptist Gomes. Thereafter, Rev. Fr. Richard Rodrigues presented the report of the previous meeting, which was discussed and confirmed by the committee.

In his address, Bishop Duming Dias emphasized the importance of making the Golden Jubilee a meaningful spiritual and pastoral celebration for the entire diocese. He encouraged all those present to work together with commitment, creativity, and a spirit of collaboration so that the Jubilee year would strengthen the faith of the people and renew the mission of the local Church.

A major agenda of the meeting was the formation of the Golden Jubilee Committees. The various committees were officially introduced, members were appointed, and their responsibilities were outlined to ensure the effective planning and coordination of the Jubilee celebrations.

The meeting also witnessed an extensive discussion on the proposed Jubilee programmes and celebrations. Participants shared valuable suggestions on the spiritual, pastoral, liturgical, cultural, and social dimensions of the Jubilee Year. Various ideas were put forward to ensure that the Golden Jubilee celebrations become participatory, faith-filled, and meaningful, involving clergy, religious, lay faithful, youth, families, and parish communities throughout the Diocese.

Rev. Fr. Gabriel Monis proposed the vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to Bishop Duming Dias, the organizing committee, all the participants, and everyone who contributed to the successful planning meeting. He thanked all present for their valuable suggestions and wholehearted cooperation in preparing for the Diocesan Golden Jubilee.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of commitment among all members to work together in preparing for the Golden Jubilee, ensuring that the celebration becomes a moment of thanksgiving to God for the diocese’s rich journey of faith and a source of renewed hope for its future mission.
