Diocese of Karwar Commission for Communication Organises Media Professionals’ Get-Together

The Diocese of Karwar Commission for Communication organized a Media Professionals’ Get-Together on 2 August 2026 at KDDC, Karwar  under the leadership of Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Secretary of the Commission for Communication. The programme brought together 25 Catholic media professionals from across the Diocese.

The programme began with a prayer led by Fr. Roshan Fernandes. Ms. Bessy Lopis, Media Representative of the Kone Deanery, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the programme. The gathering officially commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, Sr. Stanley Alfonsa, CRI President, Fr. Stewart Fernandes, and the other dignitaries.

The Chief Guest, Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, delivered the introductory address. He reminded the participants that Catholic media professionals are called not only to serve within the Church but also to go out into society as committed and professional journalists. He encouraged them to proclaim the Good News through the media by upholding truth, integrity, and responsibility in their work. The Bishop emphasized that social media should be used as a powerful instrument to spread positive values, communicate the Gospel, and contribute to the common good. He also appreciated the efforts of Fr. Stewart Fernandes in organizing the programme.

The felicitation ceremony was compered by Ms. Wilma Corte, during which Mr. Samson Lopes, Ms. Reema Fernandes, Mr. Wilson Fernandes, and Mr. Neelan Miranda were honoured in recognition of their outstanding contributions and dedicated service in the field of media. The Diocese expressed its appreciation for their commitment, professionalism, and valuable contributions, which continue to inspire and strengthen the mission of Catholic communication.

The first resource session was led by Mr. Samson Lopes, who spoke on the importance of identifying and making the best use of the talents God has entrusted to each person. Sharing experiences from his own journey in music and tiatr, he explained that talents are gifts from God and should be used generously for the benefit of others. His inspiring session encouraged participants to use their God-given abilities to make a positive impact on society through the media.

The second session was conducted by Fr. Mark Fernandes, who offered practical guidance on article writing and effective communication. He explained the essential principles of writing news articles, highlighting the importance of proper grammar, clarity, accuracy, and a well-organized presentation. His session provided valuable insights into developing professional writing skills and maintaining journalistic standards.

The programme concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Rev. Fr. Roshan Fernandes and concelebrated by Fr. Stewart Fernandes and Fr. Mark Fernandes. In his homily, Fr. Roshan encouraged the faithful to become authentic witnesses of Christ by proclaiming the truth with faith, integrity, and love. The participants actively and prayerfully participated in the Eucharistic celebration.

At the conclusion of the programme, Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Secretary of the Commission for Communication, proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed sincere gratitude to Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, the resource persons, the felicitated media professionals, all participants, volunteers, and everyone whose support and cooperation contributed to the success of the programme.

Following the vote of thanks, the participants celebrated Priests’ Day by extending their heartfelt wishes and expressing their gratitude to the priests present for their dedicated pastoral ministry and selfless service to the Church. The celebration served as a meaningful gesture of appreciation and fraternity.

The Media Professionals’ Get-Together concluded with a fellowship meal, providing an opportunity for participants to interact, strengthen their bonds, and renew their commitment to using the media as an effective instrument of evangelization.
