ICYM Bhatkal Deanery holds Youth Leadership Programme

A leadership training program was held on 16th August 2026 at St. Sebastian Church, Upper Kasarkod, with 35 participants taking part. The programme was compared by Glancy D’Souza, Cultural Secretary, who guided the participants through the various sessions and activities.

The programme began with a welcome address by Sr. Pelina Vaz, Lady Animator. This was followed by the first session conducted by Rev. Fr. Prashanth Fernandes OFM, ICYM Bhatkal Deanery Coordinator. He introduced the participants to the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), explaining its vision, mission, and purpose, as well as the responsibilities of its members and office bearers. The session encouraged the youth to actively participate in ICYM through faith, fellowship, and service.

An engaging ice-breaking session was then conducted by Lidiya Louis, Joint Secretary. Three group activities helped the participants interact with one another, develop teamwork, and participate actively. A refreshment break followed.

The second session was led by Mr. Benruben Rodrigues, former president of ICYM Karwar Diocese. He spoke on the importance of balancing involvement in ICYM with personal and professional responsibilities. The session highlighted effective management of time, priorities, communication, and commitments while remaining actively engaged in youth ministry.

The programme continued with an energetic animation session conducted by the Core Committee, creating an atmosphere of joy, friendship, and togetherness among the participants.

The programme concluded with a message by Rev. Fr. Prashanth Fernandes OFM, followed by a Thanksgiving Prayer and Vote of Thanks by Glancy D’Souza. The event concluded with a group photograph of the participants and organisers.

Tea and snacks were served after the programme, providing an opportunity for further fellowship and interaction. The Leadership Training Programme was a meaningful and enriching experience for the youth, inspiring them to understand leadership not merely as a position of responsibility but as a call to lead with faith, serve with love, and work together for the growth of ICYM and the Church.
