EduCare 2026–27 Launched to Empower Students across the Diocese of Karwar

The EduCare 2026–27 Inauguration Programme was held on Monday, 24 August 2026, at Puneeth Sadan, Shirwad, Karwar. The programme was organised by Mr. Michael D’Souza and Family Charities in association with the Diocese of Karwar, with the aim of supporting deserving students in their educational journey.

The programme began with registration, followed by a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Richard Rodrigues, Vicar General, Diocese of Karwar. Sr. Florine Fernandes, CRI Secretary, Karwar, delivered the welcome address. The programme was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar. Prof. CA Lionel Aranha, Advisor, MDS Charities, Mangalore, was the Chief Guest, while Commodore ARB D’Souza (Retd.), Indian Navy, was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Oswald Rodrigues and Mrs. Shubha Rodrigues were also present on the occasion.

In his presidential address, Bishop Duming Dias expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Michael D’Souza and his family for their generous support and commitment to the educational needs of students. He appreciated their love and concern for the Diocese of Karwar and praised their generosity in reaching out to those in need.

The Bishop described Mr. Michael D’Souza as a philanthropist with a deep love for the poor and a vision for the future. He appreciated the family’s willingness to share their resources for the welfare of others and thanked them for their love and commitment towards the Diocese.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. CA Lionel Aranha explained that Mr. Michael D’Souza had initiated the EduCare Revolving Fund to help children pursue their education. The fund provides educational assistance without interest, enabling deserving students to continue their studies without being burdened by financial difficulties.

He emphasised the importance of making a difference in the lives of others. “Ours is one life, so we need to help others,” he said, encouraging everyone to use their time, resources and opportunities to serve those in need. He further expressed the vision of building a strong network of supporters in the future, through which more students and families could be reached.

As part of the EduCare initiative, panels were constituted to interview students and assess their educational needs and circumstances. Prof. CA Lionel Aranha, Mr. Oswald Rodrigues and Mrs. Shubha Rodrigues participated in the discussion panels, interacting with the students and offering valuable advice and guidance for their academic progress, personal development and better future. The panel discussions will help identify deserving students who can benefit from the EduCare Revolving Fund.

Fr. Gabriel Lopes, KDES Secretary, Karwar, proposed the vote of thanks. The EduCare initiative reflects the spirit of generosity, compassion and service, seeking to provide educational opportunities to deserving children and to build a supportive network for their future.
