Leadership Training Programme and Diocesan Youth Council Meet held at Shirwad

The Leadership Training Programme and Diocesan Youth Council Meet, organized by ICYM Diocese of Karwar, was held on 2 October 2026 at Holy Cross Parish Hall, Shirwad, with the participation of 48 youth office bearers representing all seven deaneries of the Diocese of Karwar.

The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Rev. Fr. Richard Rodrigues, Vicar General, Fr. Gabriel Monis, Dean of Kone Deanery, Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, Diocesan Youth Director, DEXCO members, deanery coordinators, the Lady Animator and deanery office bearers. Fr. Richard Rodrigues welcomed the gathering and encouraged the youth to actively participate in the mission of the Church and carry out their responsibilities with commitment and enthusiasm.

The first session, conducted by Fr. Silvan Rodrigues on the theme “Called to Lead and Sent to Serve”, focused on Christian leadership, service and the role of young people in the Church and society. Interactive animation and group activities helped strengthen teamwork, communication, leadership skills and fraternity among the participants. The secretaries of the seven deaneries also presented reports highlighting their activities and initiatives.

In the afternoon, the first Diocesan Youth Council meeting was held, during which various agenda points and upcoming programmes were discussed. The Diocesan Youth Director and Akwil Fernandes, President, responded to the questions raised by the council members and clarified matters concerning youth activities and responsibilities.

The programme concluded with the singing of the ICYM Anthem and the final blessing. The gathering provided an opportunity for leadership formation, sharing of experiences, coordination among the deaneries, and strengthening of the spirit of service and collaboration among the youth of the Diocese of Karwar.
