PPC Training Seminar held at Sirsi Deanery
On 2nd March 2025, the training seminar for the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) members of Sirsi Deanery was successfully conducted at Infant Jesus Church, Agasebagil, Sirsi. A total of 92 participants attended this enriching session aimed at strengthening the leadership and pastoral mission of the laity in the Church.
The seminar began with a prayer and an introductory address by Rev. Fr. Anacletas D’Mello, Dean of Sirsi Deanery. The key sessions were led by Rev. Fr. Lancy Rodrigues, Director of the Laity Commission, who spoke on the importance of parish pastoral councils and the roles and responsibilities of PPC members. Also provided a historical perspective on councils, beginning with the time of Moses in the Old Testament, highlighting the Sanhedrin and early councils in the New Testament, including the mission of the 72 disciples, the 12 apostles, and the institution of deacons. He then focused on Vatican II documents and Canon Law, emphasizing the vital role of the laity in Church leadership and the importance of coordination between PPC members, parish priests, and parish associations for the effective functioning of the Church.
Following the sessions, participants engaged in parish-wise group discussions on the relevance of PPC in the life of the Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Anacletas D’Mello and Rev. Fr. Romeo Fernandes moderated the reporting session, where key insights and reflections were shared.
The seminar concluded with an evaluation, a vote of thanks, and a fellowship lunch. The highlight of the event was the growing recognition of the laity’s role in church leadership, underscoring the theme: Laity Coming of Age
