Parish Finance Committee Seminar for Kajubag and Kone Deaneries
The Laity Commission of the Diocese of Karwar organized a Parish Finance Committee (PFC) Seminar for Kajubag and Kone Deaneries on 24th August 2025 at Puneeth Sadan, Shirwad. A total of 43 members participated in the half-day seminar.
The program opened with a prayer service led by Fr. Intru Pinto, Laity Commission Coordinator for Kone Deanery. This was followed by the first session by Fr. Lancy Rodrigues, Director of the Laity Commission, on the theme “Role of Laity in the Church.” Drawing from Sacred Scripture and Vatican II documents (Lumen Gentium, Gaudium et Spes, Apostolicam Actuositatem), he underlined the dignity, mission, and leadership of the People of God in the life of the Church.
The second session, led by Fr. Gabriel Lopes, Diocesan Education Secretary, focused on “Financial Administration of the Parish.” He explained the statutes of the PFC, clarifying that while the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is a consultative body, the PFC assists the parish priest in matters of finance. He stressed that PFC plays a vital role in any financial development or sustainability plan of the parish.
The highlight of the seminar was the intervention by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, who emphasized the need for parishes to become self-reliant in the present situation where external funds have greatly diminished. He encouraged members to work with dedication and creativity to support the mission of the Church.
The seminar concluded with the Holy Eucharist, joined by doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff who were gathered at the Bishop’s House for their jubilee celebration. A fraternal lunch marked the close of the day’s program.
