Jubilee Celebration of Women in Karwar Diocese: A Day of Grace, Joy, and Empowerment
9th of March 2025 marked a historic and red-letter day for the women of the Diocese of Karwar, as around 1500 women from across the diocese gathered in a spirit of faith, unity, and celebration for the Jubilee of Women. The event was held at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Assumption, Kajubag, Karwar, highlighting the significance of International Women’s Day, the Jubilee Year, and the Pilgrimage of Women.
The day began with a grand pilgrimage procession led by Sr. Mabel Pinto DHM, carrying the Jubilee Cross with deep devotion, symbolizing the journey of women towards faith and empowerment. The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Bishop of Karwar, Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, along with the Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Richard Rodrigues, and other concelebrant priests.
During his homily, Rev. Fr. Richard inspired the women with a powerful reflection on the temptations faced in daily life and how women, with their strong faith, can overcome these challenges through the grace of God. The Mass concluded with a special blessing for all the women present, invoking God’s protection and guidance in their lives.
Following the Mass, a short stage program was organized to celebrate the day. The highlight of the program was the energetic and vibrant action songs performed by the ICYM youth, led by Shreya and team, which filled the atmosphere with joy and enthusiasm. The women actively participated and enjoyed the spirit of togetherness.
In his address, Bishop Duming Dias expressed his deep appreciation for Sr. Mabel Pinto, DHM, who worked tirelessly to organize and execute this grand event. He emphasized the theme for 2025, “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” calling upon women to continue their mission in the church and society, promoting peace, love, and justice.
The keynote speakers of the day, Mrs. Caroline Fernandes and Sr. Mabel D’Cruz CCR, delivered profound reflections on women’s leadership in the Bible, encouraging women to take up leadership roles in their families, church, and society, inspired by the biblical role models of faith and strength.
The success of the day was also attributed to the excellent coordination and efforts of Mrs. Felcita Gomes and Leena Siddi, who gracefully completed the program. Mrs. Mabel Rebello extended a warm welcome to all the guests and participants. Mrs. Sunita D’costa delivered the heartfelt vote of thanks, appreciating everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
A special note of gratitude was expressed to Rev. Fr. Nirmal Kumar and Fr. Gabriel Monis, who took full charge of the food arrangements for all the participants and executed them with remarkable efficiency. The Diocese also extended heartfelt thanks to Fr. Wilson Dsouza and Sr. Pinky Tandy (adorers), who offered their assistance and support, ensuring that the program was smooth and memorable.
The day truly highlighted the spirit of unity, faith, and empowerment among the women of the diocese, encouraging them to walk in faith, stand for their rights, and contribute to a more just and equitable future. The event concluded with women leaving the cathedral with renewed enthusiasm and commitment to their faith and mission. Indeed, it was a day to cherish a Jubilee of Faith, Unity, and Empowerment for the Women of Karwar Diocese.
