Karwar Diocese holds Ongoing Formation for Its Clergy

The Diocese of Karwar organized its ongoing clergy formation program from 9th to 11th September 2025 at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Shirwad-Karwar, under the guidance of Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias.

The first two days focused on the theme of liturgy, animated by Rev. Dr. Rudolph Pinto, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Liturgy. In his engaging sessions, he highlighted Ars Celebrandi—the Art and Spirit of Celebration, the Structure of the Mass, and Reverence and Relevance in Today’s Liturgical Celebration—and addressed Abuses in the Liturgy. His deep insights, combined with pastoral examples, helped priests rediscover the richness of the liturgy and their role in celebrating it with authenticity and devotion. The clergy actively participated through discussions and clarifications.

The third day marked the release of the Diocesan Survey Book, a valuable resource prepared by Sr. Perpetua and her team. Priests engaged in group discussions on survey questions, sharing responses that will guide diocesan pastoral planning. Bishop Duming Dias warmly thanked Sr. Perpetua and her collaborators for their dedicated contribution.

The sessions continued with resource person Rev. Fr. Lourdusamy T., Faculty of Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore. He addressed Particular Delicts and Punishments in Book VI of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, clarifying the Church’s norms on accountability and responsibility. In the afternoon, he spoke on the Pastoral Role of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) and Parish Finance Council (PFC), stressing their importance for transparency, collaboration, and growth in parish life.

The program concluded with words of thanks from Fr. Gabriel Monis on behalf of all clergy, appreciating the leadership of Bishop Duming Dias, the valuable input of the speakers Rev. Dr. Rudolph Pinto and Rev. Fr. Lourdusamy T., and the dedicated efforts of Fr. Cyprian Silva, Director of the Pastoral Centre, and Fr. Intru Pinto, Procurator of the Diocese, in organizing the sessions.

This three-day formation proved to be a time of learning, renewal, and fraternity, strengthening the priests’ commitment to serve with reverence, pastoral effectiveness, and faithfulness to the mission of the Church.
