Missionary Childhood Association Convention held in Karwar Diocese
The Diocese of Karwar, through its Commission for Proclamation & Evangelization, successfully organized the Missionary Childhood Association Convention 2026 on 14 April 2026 at the St. Joseph Church Hall, Lower Kasarkod. The event brought together around 360 children—including 166 boys and 194 girls—from three deaneries to deepen their missionary spirit and grow in faith.
The program began with arrival and registration, which was done by the animators of the MCA units, followed by the formal inaugural stage program. Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Director of the Commission, warmly welcomed the gathering. The program was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing Christ as the Light of the World. During the inaugural program, Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, Fr. Maxim Dias, Regional Secretary for the Commission for Proclamation & Evangelization, and Fr. Albert Silva were felicitated in recognition of their service and contribution.
In the introductory session, Fr. Maxim Dias spoke about how children can become little missionaries in their daily lives through simple acts of love, sharing, and prayer, encouraging them to actively participate in the mission of the Church.
The bishop, Duming Dias, in his address, emphasized the importance of prayer, sacrifice, and vocation. He urged the children to develop a personal relationship with Jesus, to make small sacrifices with love, and to be open to God’s call in their lives. He also reminded them to share Christ with others and live the spirit of “children helping children.” At the end of the program, the Bishop expressed his gratitude to the Director, Fr. Stewart Fernandes, and to all those who worked hard to make the event a success.
Following the stage program, vibrant animation sessions were conducted by the ICYM Bhatkal Deanery youth, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere for the children.
The first session was conducted by Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, who spoke on vocation promotion, inspiring the children to listen to God’s call and respond generously. The second session was led by Fr. Maxim Dias, who explained the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) through a PowerPoint presentation, helping the children understand their role as young missionaries.
After lunch, the program continued with animations followed by a motivating talk by Fr. Albert Silva, who conveyed an important life lesson through the example of a glass and water, encouraging children to develop a positive attitude and strong faith.
Fr. Benjamin D’Souza and Fr. Lorence D’Silva, deans, were present for the program. Several other priests also attended and encouraged the children, adding to the spirit of the gathering. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the director, Fr. Stewart Fernandes, acknowledging the efforts and support of all involved. The convention ended with leaving the participants inspired to live as young missionaries, rooted in prayer, sacrifice, and openness to vocation.
