Msgr. Simon Tellis is a distinguished Catholic priest hailing from the Diocese of Karwar, with a rich history of dedicated service. Born on July 10, 1947, in Sirsi and Ordained in 21 April 1974. His ordination marked the beginning of a remarkable career devoted to spiritual leadership and community service. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Msgr. Tellis has been entrusted with various responsibilities that showcase his versatility and commitment to his vocation. Early in his ministry, he served as Assistant Priest at St. Patrick Church, Bangalore, and St. John the Baptist Church, Kumta, where he also pursued his B.Ed. at Kamala Baliga College. His journey continued with a teaching role at St. Joseph’s School, Karwar, before taking on the position of Vice Rector at St. Michael’s Seminary, Belgaum, from 1976 to 1981.

In 1981, Msgr. Tellis assumed the role of Parish Priest at Our Lady of Happy Death, Samsi, followed by leadership positions at San Salvador Church and Our Lady of Piety Church in subsequent years. Notably, he has held the vital position of Vicar General of the Diocese of Karwar since October 11, 1989, a testament to his unwavering dedication and administrative prowess.

Over the years, Msgr. Tellis has continued to serve the faithful in various capacities, including as Parish Priest at Assumption of Our Lady, Cathedral Church, Kajubag, and Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Sunkeri. His leadership was particularly crucial during the period of Sede Vacante in 2007 when he served as the Administrator of the Diocese of Karwar.

On May 14, 2007, Msgr. Simon Tellis received a significant appointment as Vicar General of the Diocese of Karwar, reaffirming the trust placed in him by Bishop Derek Ferandes. This appointment, following his earlier term as Vicar General from 1989 to 2007, reflects the bishop’s intent to ensure continuity and build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor, Bishop Emeritus William D’Mello, with whom Msgr. Tellis worked closely for almost 18 years.

His commitment to nurturing the faith community extended to his role as Formator of the Association of Apostles of Holy Family in Makheri, a position he undertook from June 1, 2013. Further showcasing his versatility, he served as Delegate of the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Karwar from June 28, 2019, to 2023.

After his retirement in 2023, Msgr. Simon Tellis chose to continue his life of dedication within the spiritual realm. He now resides in the Bishop’s house, marking a serene transition from active service to a more contemplative role.

Throughout his illustrious career, Msgr. Tellis has been a steadfast presence, standing as a pillar of strength and continuity in the Diocese of Karwar. His commitment to embodying the values of faith, service, and leadership has left an indelible mark on the Catholic community he served with unwavering dedication. From his early days as Assistant Priest in Bangalore and Kumta to pivotal roles as Vicar General and Parish Priest at various churches, his journey reflects a profound sense of duty and spiritual leadership.

His appointment as Vicar General of the Diocese of Karwar in 2007, announced by Bishop Derek Ferandes, not only reinforced the trust placed in him but also highlighted the bishop’s intent to maintain continuity and build upon the foundation laid by his predecessor, Bishop Emeritus William D’Mello.
