On 16th Feb 2025, the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Training Seminar for Kone Deanery was successfully conducted at Puneeth Sadan, Shirwad, with the participation of 50 dedicated members. The seminar began with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Ronny Rodrigues, Laity Coordinator of Kone Deanery, setting a spiritual tone for the day. Following this, Rev. Fr. Nirmal Kumar, Director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre (DPC), welcomed the participants with a brief introduction, emphasizing the importance of effective pastoral leadership.

The first session, titled “Importance of the Parish Pastoral Councils,” was presented by Rev. Fr. John Rodrigues. He provided a historical overview of councils, beginning with their roots in the Old Testament through the leadership of Moses, touching on the Sanhedrin in the New Testament, and highlighting the renewed understanding brought about by Vatican II. His insights reinforced the vital role PPCs play in the life and mission of the church.

The second talk on “Role and Responsibilities of PPC Members” was delivered by Rev. Fr. Lancy Rodrigues, Director of the Laity Commission. He stressed the practical aspects of PPC involvement, focusing on the importance of collaboration between council members, parish priests, lay faithful, and church associations to ensure smooth and effective parochial activities.

The day’s events also included the celebration of the Holy Eucharist before lunch, fostering a spirit of unity and purpose among attendees. The afternoon session featured group discussions and presentations of reports, allowing participants to share ideas and strategies for strengthening their respective parishes.

The seminar concluded with a powerful takeaway theme: “Leadership of the Laity in the Growth of the Church.” The training seminar was a resounding success, equipping PPC members with the knowledge and motivation to serve their parishes more effectively and to lead with faith and dedication.
