Theology Course for Lay Faithful held at Honnavar

The Commission for the Laity and the Desk for Theology and Doctrine of the Diocese of Karwar successfully organized a theology course for the lay faithful on 19th March 2026, the Feast of St. Joseph, Patron of the Diocese. The program was held at the Pratibodaya Centre, Honnavar, and witnessed the participation of 42 faithful from various parishes across the diocese.

The initiative aimed at deepening theological understanding and strengthening the faith formation of lay leaders in the local Church. The course, apologetic in nature, sought to equip participants with a clearer understanding of Scripture and Church teachings in today’s context.

The program began with an introductory session by Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Cruz, who outlined the objectives and purpose of the course. The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Lorens D’Silva, Dean and Deanery Coordinator for the Desk for Theology and Doctrine of Bhatkal Deanery, and Rev. Fr. Edwin D’Souza, Deanery Coordinator for Honnavar Deanery.

Rev. Fr. Lancy Rodrigues, Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Ankola, served as the main resource person. Through his engaging sessions, he offered insightful reflections on key Biblical themes, encouraging participants to deepen their engagement with the Word of God, Church teachings, and the mission of the Church in contemporary society.

The participants responded with great enthusiasm and appreciation for the clarity and depth of the sessions, which effectively combined sound theology with practical pastoral application. The interactive format of the course provided ample opportunity for discussions, questions, and sharing of experiences, fostering a spirit of synodality and collaboration among the laity.

The commission also expressed its gratitude to Rev. Fr. Sebastian Fernandes, Director of Pratibodaya Centre, Honnavar, for the arrangements and support extended for the successful conduct of the program. The course concluded with a note of encouragement to all participants to continue their theological journey and to bear witness to their faith in their respective communities.
