Training Seminar for New PPC Members of Kajubag Deanery

On 23 Feb 2025, The Training Seminar for the newly appointed Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) members of Kajubag Deanery was held at Immaculate Conception Church, Sunkeri, with 95 participants in attendance.The seminar commenced with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Ireneo Dias, the Dean of Kajubag Deanery, setting a spiritual tone for the gathering. Rev. Fr. Lancy Rodrigues, Director of the Laity Commission, then welcomed the participants and provided a brief introduction to the seminar’s objectives.
The first session was conducted by Rev. Fr. John Rodrigues, Rector of the Minor Seminary, on the topic “Importance of the Parish Pastoral Councils.” He traced the history of councils from the time of Moses in the Old Testament, through the Sanhedrin and other councils of the New Testament, emphasizing the Second Vatican Council’s role in shaping the modern understanding of PPCs as vital to the missionary endeavors of the Church.
This was followed by a session by Rev. Fr. Lancy Rodrigues on “Role and Responsibilities of PPC Members.” He provided insights from Vatican II documents and Canon Law, highlighting the importance of lay leadership in the Church. He also stressed the need for coordination among PPC members, parish priests, and lay faithful, ensuring the smooth functioning of parish life.
A group discussion was then held on the Relevance of PPCs in the Life of the Church, allowing participants to share insights and reflect on their roles. The event concluded with the presentation of reports, an evaluation, and a vote of thanks, followed by a fellowship lunch.
The seminar’s key takeaway was the Leadership of the Laity, reinforcing the essential role of PPC members in strengthening parish communities and fostering active participation in the Church’s mission.
