YCS Unit Formed at St. Joseph’s Church, Sadashivgad
A half-day formation programme for the Young Catholic Students (YCS) was successfully conducted at St. Joseph’s Church, Sadashivgad, on 14th June 2026. The programme brought together 22 students from Classes VIII to PUC, marking the formation of a new YCS unit in the parish.
The programme commenced with a prayer service led by Rev. Fr. Richard Rodrigues, Parish Priest of St. Joseph’s Church, who welcomed the participants and encouraged them to grow in faith and leadership.
The students were introduced to the vision, mission, and objectives of the YCS movement through an informative and engaging session conducted by Rev. Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, Youth Director for ICYM and YCS of the Diocese of Karwar. He explained the importance of youth involvement in the Church and society and encouraged the students to become active witnesses of Christ in their daily lives.
A religious sister was also present throughout the programme and actively assisted in coordinating the participants and facilitating the various activities and discussions. The formation session was interactive and dynamic, featuring group discussions, activities, and opportunities for the students to share their thoughts and experiences. Special emphasis was given to the YCS methodology of “See, Judge and Act”, helping the participants understand how to observe social realities, reflect on them in the light of the Gospel, and take responsible Christian action.
The students were also introduced to the concept of cell meetings, where members regularly gather for prayer, reflection, discussion, and action-orientated initiatives. The programme inspired the young participants to actively engage in the life and mission of the Church through the YCS movement.
The programme concluded with the recitation of the Angelus, thanking God for the fruitful gathering and seeking His blessings upon the newly formed YCS unit. The event marked an important step in nurturing faith, leadership, and social responsibility among the young students of the parish.
