Holy Cross Church Shirali hosts MCA Inauguration and Training on Palm Sunday

On 29th March 2026, Holy Cross Church, Shirali, witnessed a meaningful and vibrant celebration as the inauguration and training program of MCA children was held in conjunction with Palm Sunday.

The Holy Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Stewart Fernandes, secretary for the Commission for Proclamation and Evangelization. The Mass was concelebrated by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Wilson Fernandes. In his homily, Fr. Stewart Fernandes emphasized the importance of obedience and humility, while also highlighting the spiritual significance of Palm Sunday, inviting the faithful—especially the children—to follow Christ with sincerity and commitment.

Following the Mass, the inauguration of the MCA (Missionary Childhood Association) took place. Animator Mishel Dias, along with the children, solemnly lit the ceremonial lamp, marking the beginning of the program. This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony, where the children committed themselves to grow as young missionaries in faith and service.

After the inauguration, a special training session on MCA was conducted for the children. A total of 22 children participated in the program, actively engaging in the session with great enthusiasm and attentiveness.

Parish Priest Fr. Wilson Fernandes expressed his gratitude to Fr. Stewart Fernandes for conducting the seminar and guiding the children with his valuable insights. The entire event was a spiritually enriching experience, encouraging the children to deepen their faith and actively participate in the mission of the Church.

Men’s Association Gathering of Haliyal Deanery held at Kirwatti

The Men’s Association of Haliyal Deanery gathered for a vibrant and spiritually enriching celebration at Kirwatti on 15th March 2026. Around 60 men were present. The program was organized under the Commission for Laity and brought together members from various parishes, fostering unity, reflection, and active participation in the life of the Church.

The event was graced by Rev. Fr. Raymond Fernandes, Dean of Haliyal Deanery, as the chief guest, while Rev. Fr. Felix Lobo was the invited guest. The program commenced with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Michael Pinto, who also extended a warm welcome to all the participants.

The celebration was formally inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Felix Lobo through the traditional lighting of the lamp. On this occasion, Rev. Fr. Raymond Fernandes released the new handbook of the Men’s Association, marking an important step in strengthening the organization’s structure and mission.

A meaningful input session was delivered by Rev. Fr. Steevan D’Souza, who spoke on the importance of local elections, voter awareness, election card mapping, and the significance of SIR (Special Intensive Revision). His talk encouraged the faithful to be responsible citizens and actively participate in civic duties.

The gathering also had a spiritual dimension, resembling a recollection. Eucharistic Adoration was conducted by Rev. Fr. Raymond Fernandes, followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, offering participants a time of prayer and renewal.

A group discussion session was held focusing on the relevance and necessity of the Men’s Association. Participants reflected on how the association can contribute to parish life and discussed the need for strengthening such initiatives at the diocesan level.

The fellowship continued with a common meal, followed by engaging group games in the afternoon, adding joy and camaraderie to the gathering. The day concluded on a positive and enthusiastic note, leaving the participants inspired and motivated.

Chrism Mass Celebrated with Devotion at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Karwar

The solemn Chrism Mass was celebrated on 26th April 2026 at the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral, Kajubag, Karwar, bringing together clergy and faithful in a spirit of unity and prayer. Prior to the Holy Eucharist, the Prayer of the Church was conducted with active participation from clergy and faithful, preparing all spiritually for the Eucharistic celebration.

The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, and was concelebrated by all the diocesan priests. In his homily, the bishop emphasized the importance of the priesthood, reminding people that priests are called to be true models of Christ to the people they serve. He also urged the faithful to remember and support their priests through daily prayer, recognizing their vital role in the life of the Church.

 A significant highlight of the celebration was the blessing of the Holy Oils, symbolizing the unity of the Church and the sacred ministries carried out throughout the diocese. During the Mass, the renewal of priestly vows took place, as the priests reaffirmed their commitment to their sacred ministry in the presence of the bishop and the faithful.

A large number of faithful were present for this important diocesan event. At the end of the Mass, Fr. Thomas Fernandes, Rector of the Cathedral, expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their presence and participation.

Following the Eucharist, the Diocesan Pastoral Plan Book was inaugurated by the bishop along with the deans, marking a significant step forward in the pastoral mission of the diocese. The celebration concluded with a fellowship meal shared by all who attended, fostering unity and fraternity among the clergy and the faithful.

Haliyal Deanery Youth Experience Grace-Filled Retreat

The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Haliyal Deanery organized a vibrant Youth Retreat on 22nd March 2026 at Mary Queen of Heaven & Earth Church, Gardolli, with the enthusiastic participation of around 220 youth. The retreat was organized under the leadership of Fr. Simon Fernandes, Deanery Youth Coordinator, along with his dedicated deanery office bearers’ team.

The retreat was a spiritually enriching experience, filled with prayer, reflection, and joyful fellowship. The inaugural program was graced by the Dean, Fr. Raymond Fernandes. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Ronald D’Souza, concelebrated by other priests, setting a prayerful tone for the day.

The retreat included Adoration and Praise & Worship led by Fr. Simon Fernandes, creating a deep atmosphere of devotion. A meaningful spiritual talk was delivered by Fr. Simon Siddi, inspiring the youth to grow in faith and commitment.

Various engaging activities added vibrancy to the retreat. The action song of Jesus was animated by Fr. Simon Fernandes, while other activities were conducted by Fr. Francis Fernandes, Fr. Arun Fernandes, and Fr. Ronald D’Souza. Overall, the retreat proved to be a grace-filled and enriching experience, strengthening the faith and unity of the youth of Haliyal Deanery.

Honavar Deanery Youth Lenten Retreat – “Dilexi Te”

The Honavar Deanery Youth organized a meaningful Lenten retreat titled “Dilexi Te” (I Have Loved You) on 21 March 2026 at Infant Jesus Church, Prabhat Nagar, with the participation of 150 youth.

The retreat began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, youth director, setting a prayerful and reflective tone for the day. Fr. Mark Fernandes then led a session on the theme “Dilexi Te,” encouraging the youth to reflect on God’s personal love and their response to it in everyday life.

The program also included animation and interactive sessions that kept the youth actively engaged and fostered a spirit of joy and unity. A profound moment of grace was experienced during the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, offering the participants time for silent prayer and a deeper encounter with the Lord.

At the end of the retreat, the Deanery Youth Coordinator, Fr. Ravi Horta, expressed gratitude to all the office bearers and felicitated the director and former office bearers for their dedicated service. The retreat was generously hosted by the Parish Priest, Fr. Anthony Lopes, whose support ensured the smooth conduct of the program.

The day concluded on a spiritually enriching note, with the youth returning home renewed in faith and inspired to live out God’s love in their daily lives.

Bhatkal Deanery Youth Walking Pilgrimage – Via Spei (Way of Hope)

The ICYM Bhatkal Deanery organized Via Spei – The Way of Hope, a meaningful Lenten walking pilgrimage for the youth on 21st March 2026, with the enthusiastic participation of over 200 young faithful. The pilgrimage commenced from Kulimane, Idugunji, fostering a deep spirit of prayer, unity, and spiritual reflection.

The initiative was carried out under the able leadership of the Deanery Youth Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Vilet Fernandes, with the wholehearted support of the deanery office bearers.

The program began with an invocation to the Holy Spirit led by the deanery dean, Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Silva. The participants prayerfully recited the Rosary, led by Ms. Presley D’Souza, Girl Representative, followed by the Way of the Cross. An introduction to the devotion was given by Mr. Annchrist Fernandes, President of ICYM Bhatkal Deanery, and the opening prayer was led by Rev. Fr. Vilet Fernandes.

The Stations of the Cross were thoughtfully distributed among the various units, ensuring active participation of all. The concluding prayers were led by Rev. Fr. Rohan Fernandes, Adding spiritual depth to the pilgrimage, the diocesan youth director, Rev. Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, delivered an inspiring reflection on embracing hope and faith in one’s journey with Christ.

The devotional atmosphere was further enriched by the soulful choir led by the Lower Kasarkod Unit, which accompanied the pilgrims throughout, uplifting their hearts in prayer.

The pilgrimage culminated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Molkod, where the participants were warmly welcomed by Rev. Fr. Walter D’Mello. The Holy Eucharist was solemnly celebrated by Rev. Fr. Lawrence D’Silva, who presided over the Mass. The homily was delivered by Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza. The Eucharistic celebration was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Vilet Fernandes, Rev. Fr. Rohan Fernandes, and Rev. Fr. Silvan Rodrigues. The liturgy was reverently carried out by the council and core members.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Melisha Fernandes, Liturgy Secretary, followed by breakfast served to all participants.

The pilgrimage proved to be a spiritually enriching experience, helping the youth deepen their faith, renew their hope in Christ, and strengthen their commitment to living Gospel values.

The CRI Lenten Recollection was prayerfully conducted on 22 March 2026 at Puneet Sadan, Shirwad, with the participation of 115 members.

The day began with a warm welcome by Most Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, who set a reflective and spiritual tone for the gathering. The first session was led by Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, Commission Director for Vocation – Clergy and Religious. He guided the participants in deepening their understanding of vocation and encouraged them to renew their commitment to their calling.

The second session was animated by Fr. Baptist Gomes on the theme “Collaboration and Participating in the Mission of the Church.” He highlighted the importance of unity, cooperation, and active participation in the Church’s mission.

A meaningful opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession was arranged, with spiritual preparation led by Fr. Silvan Rodrigues, helping participants to enter more deeply into the Lenten spirit of repentance and renewal.

The recollection concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Duming Dias. In his homily and concluding message, he encouraged the CRI members to be generous and committed in supporting the mission of the Church.

Following the Eucharistic celebration, Fr. Stevan D’Souza, Director of KDDC, conducted a brief but important session on SIR and safeguarding policies, emphasizing responsibility, accountability, and care in ministry.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Sr. Victoria. The event was smoothly organized with the assistance of Fr. Intru Pinto and the seminarians. The gathering ended with a time of fellowship over lunch, bringing the recollection to a joyful and grace-filled close.

Step by Step with Jesus: Kajubag Deanery Youth Lenten Pilgrimage

Kajubag Deanery organized a two-day Lenten pilgrimage for youth on 21st and 22nd March 2026, with around 93 enthusiastic participants. The pilgrimage included visits to sacred places at Parempally, Kalyanpur, Kalmadi, and the Basilica of St. Lawrence, Attur.

The pilgrimage was conducted under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Wilson D’Souza, Deanery Youth Coordinator, and office bearers of deaneries. The youth experienced deep spiritual enrichment through various prayer moments. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Stewart Fernandes and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Wilson D’Souza. The participants also prayerfully took part in the Way of the Cross, reflecting on the passion of Christ, and gathered for the Rosary in the evening, strengthening their unity in prayer.

A special session was led by Rev. Fr. Ashwin Aranha, who spoke on the identity of each person in Christ. He emphasized that our identity is rooted in the Church and reminded the youth that they are the “light of the world,” called to share Christ’s light with others.

On 22nd March, the youth participated in the Holy Eucharist at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, Attur. At the conclusion of the pilgrimage, Rev. Fr. Wilson D’Souza expressed gratitude to all the participants and to everyone who contributed to making the pilgrimage a meaningful and prayerful experience.

Sr. Freshina and Sr. Prema, Deanery Lady Youth Animator, accompanied and guided the youth throughout the pilgrimage. Rev. Fr. Stewart Fernandes, Communication Director of the Diocese of Karwar, also accompanied the group. The pilgrimage concluded on a joyful and faith-filled note, inspiring the youth to live their Christian identity with renewed zeal and commitment.

A one-day course on “Introduction to the Liturgy was successfully conducted on 21st March 2026 at St. Sebastian’s Church, Manchikeri, under the Theology and Doctrine Commission of the Diocese of Karwar.

The session began with a warm welcome and introduction by Fr. Nathanial Cruz, director of the Theology and Doctrine Commission, who introduced the resource person. In the pre-lunch session, Fr. Felix Lobo provided a comprehensive explanation of the meaning of liturgy and its essential elements, helping participants gain a strong foundational understanding of the Church’s liturgical life.

The post-lunch session focused on different forms and expressions of prayer, along with important guidelines for the celebration of liturgy and an overview of key Church documents. The sessions were both enriching and practical, deepening the participants’ appreciation of liturgical practices.

In the concluding session, Fr. Joswin, the deanery coordinator, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person for his enlightening inputs. Mrs. Precilla, on behalf of the participants, shared the insights and knowledge gained through the program.

The course concluded with a group photograph. The Commission extended its sincere thanks to Fr. Ronny Rodrigues, priest in charge of St. Sebastian’s Church, for his generous support and arrangements that contributed to the success of the event.

Chapati & Roti Making Unit and Food Processing Initiatives Inaugurated in Kumta Deanery

The chapati and roti-making machine and dehydration unit for ABC malt powder production were inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, in Kumta Deanery. This initiative stands as a fruitful outcome of the training program on food production organized by Sr. Mabel Pinto, Coordinator of the Women’s Commission of the Diocese of Karwar. The training aimed at empowering women with practical skills and encouraging self-reliance through small-scale entrepreneurship.

Following the training, the resource person, Dr. Nivea Gomes, extended her support by guiding the participants through the necessary procedures and documentation. Inspired and strengthened by this accompaniment, Mrs. Natal, Mrs. Asparance, and Mrs. Rita from Kadle Parish courageously came together to begin their venture.

In addition, a dehydration unit for ABC malt powder production was initiated at Manaki, Kumta, by Mrs. Sonia Gonsalves, marking another significant step in promoting local food processing initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, the bishop appreciated the efforts of the women and described the initiative as “a spark” that has the potential to spread across the entire diocese. He encouraged more women to come forward, participate in such training programs, and take up similar entrepreneurial ventures for their growth and empowerment.

Fr. Anthony Rodrigues, Dean of Kumta, along with other dignitaries, was present on the occasion and expressed his support for such initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and self-sustainability within the Church and society. They honored the bishop, Sr. Mabel, and Dr. Nivia as a sign of gratitude. The women expressed their gratitude to Rev. Fr. Anecletus Dmello, Parish Priest of Manaki Parish, and Rev. Fr. Santosh, Parish Priest of Kadle Parish. The program stands as a testimony to the Church’s commitment to holistic development, fostering both spiritual growth and economic empowerment among the faithful.
