The Diocesan Prison Ministry Commission organized a touching Raksha Bandhan celebration at the Karwar Prison on 10th August 2025, under the leadership of Sr. Freshina Lopes and team, bringing moments of joy, reflection, and fraternity to the inmates.
The program was graced by Miss Shyamala Naik, Assistant Jailer, as the Chief Guest, and Fr. Baptist Gomes, who presided over the event. Fr. Steevan D’Souza served as the Master of Ceremonies, warmly welcoming everyone and setting a heartfelt tone for the day.
In his presidential address, Fr. Baptist reflected on the significance of Raksha Bandhan, highlighting its values of protection, unity, and unconditional love. The children of Navajyothi Convent enlivened the celebration with a graceful prayer dance, followed by an entertaining performance that brought smiles all around.
A moving Rakhi-tying ceremony followed, symbolizing bonds of care and solidarity. Sweet distribution further spread the festive spirit among the inmates. Adding to the emotional depth, two inmate prisoners sang heartfelt songs, sharing their talent and emotions through music.
The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr. Wilson D’Souza, expressing gratitude to all contributors, guests, and participants for making the day meaningful and memorable.
This initiative not only honored a cherished festival but also served as a powerful reminder of compassion, inclusion, and hope. The Prison Ministry continues to be a beacon of light, bringing dignity and joy to those behind bars.
