ICYM of the Diocese of Karwar organized Youth Connect 2025

The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of the Diocese of Karwar successfully organized “Youth Connect 2025” on 16th February 2025 at St. John’s Nursing Auditorium, Bangalore. The event brought together 80 youth from the diocese for a day of spiritual enrichment, learning, and fellowship.

The program commenced with an inaugural address by Rev. Fr. Peter Dsouza, who shared an inspiring message about the role of youth in the church and society. His words encouraged the participants to deepen their faith and actively contribute to the mission of the Church.

Following the inauguration, Rev. Fr. Silvan, the Youth Director, conducted an engaging session on Sunday obligation and building a bright future. His talk was filled with valuable insights, combined with interactive animation, team-building activities, group discussions, and games that kept the youth actively involved and inspired.

In the afternoon, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, addressed the gathering with a thought-provoking talk on “Connecting with God and One Another.” He emphasized the importance of faith, unity, and service in the lives of young Catholics, motivating them to grow spiritually and socially.

The highlight of the event was the Holy Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Bishop Duming Dias. The solemn and spiritually uplifting Mass provided the perfect conclusion to a day filled with learning and fellowship, reinforcing the importance of faith in daily life.

“Youth Connect 2025” was a truly enriching and memorable experience for all participants. The event not only strengthened their faith but also fostered friendship, teamwork, and a renewed commitment to their spiritual journey. It was a remarkable initiative by the ICYM of Karwar Diocese, leaving a lasting impact on the young hearts and minds.

The Women’s Commission of the Diocese, under the leadership of Sr. Mabel Pinto, organized a leadership training program for the office bearers of the parish women’s cell from Kone and Kajubag Deanery. The event, held at Our Lady of Piety Church, Kone, brought together 50 women leaders for an enriching and empowering session.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Mrs. Felicita Gomes, Diocesan Women Cell Secretary. Rev. Fr. Gabriel Monis, Dean of Kone Deanery, blessed the gathering and, in his message, emphasized the importance of being truthful and straightforward as leaders.

The day featured insightful sessions on “Leadership Modeled on Mary, Our Mother” by Sr. Mabel D’Cruz, CCR. “Women Leaders Through the Commission” by Sr. Mabel Pinto, DHM. Group Discussion focusing on challenges and opportunities in women’s leadership. The personal testimony of Mrs. Leena Siddi shared her inspiring journey of overcoming struggles with faith and support from the community.

A plenary session, moderated by Rev. Fr. Benjamin D’Souza, allowed participants to share their thoughts and concerns. He appreciated the women for voicing significant issues and encouraged them to continue their leadership journey with courage and faith.

The commission thanked Rev. Fr. Edwin D’Souza for providing the venue and support. The success of the program was also due to the efforts of Mrs. Rosy D’Silva, Deanery Leader, and Sr. Pinky Tandy, AASC, who played a crucial role in making the event fruitful.

The training concluded with a prayer and blessings from Rev. Fr. Benjamin D’Souza. The participants expressed their enthusiasm and requested similar leadership training sessions at the parish level in the future.

The clergy of the Diocese of Karwar gathered for a two-day meeting on February 12 and 13, fostering prayer, reflection, and pastoral guidance. The gathering commenced on the evening of February 12 with a solemn time of adoration and vespers, setting a spiritual tone for the meeting.

On February 13, the clergy united in morning prayer, followed by an inspiring talk by Rev. Dr. T. Lourdu Swamy, who emphasized the significance of the jubilee as a time for renewal and faith-filled celebration. The sessions then moved into a period of preparation for the Sacrament of Confession and the Holy Eucharist, reinforcing the essential role of these sacraments in the life of the Church.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, addressed the priests, offering pastoral guidance and encouragement in their mission. The meeting concluded with the Angelus, bringing the gathering to a prayerful and unified close.

This meeting served as a moment of grace, strengthening the clergy in their commitment to service, renewal, and the deepening of their faith journey.

On 14th February 2025, A momentous occasion unfolded at San Salvador Church, Honnavar, as Deacons Agnel Dias and Leo Ciasico were ordained to the sacred priesthood. The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, who administered the ordination rite in the presence of approximately 70 priests and 1,500 faithfuls.

In his homily, Bishop Duming Dias reflected on the ministry of the priest, emphasizing that a priest is sent on a mission, called to proclaim the Word of God, and entrusted with the sacred duty of administering the sacraments. He exhorted the newly ordained priests to remain faithful to their vocation, serving the people of God with humility and zeal.

Following the Holy Mass, the parish community organized a felicitation program to honor the newly ordained priests. The event was marked by expressions of joy, gratitude, and prayers for their fruitful ministry.

The ordination of Fr. Agnel Dias and Fr. Leo Ciasico was a historic and grace-filled event for the Diocese of Karwar, as the Church continues to be enriched with dedicated shepherds for the mission of Christ.

On 10th February 2025, St. Joseph Church, Kirwatti-Yellapur, joyfully celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, administering the sacrament to 39 candidates. The solemn Eucharistic celebration was a moment of grace and renewal for the parish community.

In his homily, Bishop Duming Dias emphasized the power of the Holy Spirit and the call to live a life of faith with commitment and courage. He urged the newly confirmed to be true witnesses of Christ, guided by the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The parish community felicitated the bishop for his pastoral leadership and presence. Two other priests graced the occasion with their presence, adding to the solemnity of the celebration.

At the conclusion of the event, Fr. Michael Pinto expressed gratitude to the bishop, the priests, and all those who contributed to the success of this blessed day. The celebration ended with a spirit of joy and thanksgiving as the parish rejoiced in the faith journey of the newly confirmed.

On 9th February 2025, a joyous celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation took place at St. Sebastian Church, Matadkeri, Honnavar, where 16 candidates received the sacrament. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, who administered the sacrament with great solemnity.

In his homily, Bishop Duming Dias encouraged the candidates to live a strong life of faith, guided by the Holy Spirit. He reminded them that Confirmation strengthens their commitment to Christ and empowers them to be witnesses of the Gospel in their daily lives.

Following the celebration, the parish priest expressed gratitude to the bishop, catechists, parents, and all those who contributed to the preparation of the candidates. The bishop was then felicitated by the parish community in appreciation of his presence and spiritual guidance.

The event was a grace-filled and memorable occasion, marking a new chapter in the faith journey of the newly confirmed.

On 7th February 2025, A solemn and grace-filled celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation took place at Our Lady of Remedies Church, Gundibala, where 61 candidates received the sacrament. The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rt. Rev. Dr. Duming Dias, Bishop of Karwar, who administered the sacrament.

In his inspiring homily, Bishop Duming Dias emphasized the importance of faith and the power of the Holy Spirit in Christian life. He urged the newly confirmed to remain steadfast in their faith and to live as true witnesses of Christ in their families and communities.

After the celebration, Fr. Thomas, the parish priest, expressed his gratitude to the bishop, the parents, and all those who contributed to the spiritual formation of the candidates. The bishop was then felicitated by the parish community as a token of appreciation.

The event was a joyful and blessed occasion for the parish, marking a significant spiritual milestone in the lives of the young faithful

The Training of Trainers (ToT) for Remote Preparation was successfully conducted by the Diocesan Family Commission on 2nd February, 2025, with 50 participants from across the Diocese. The session was led by Mr. Francis D’Cunna from the Diocese of Mangalore, who provided valuable insights and guidance to equip trainers for their roles in the preparation process.

The Remote Preparation Program is designed for students of Class 7 to 10, aiming to provide them with a strong foundation in faith, values, and personal growth. The main focus of the training was the book “Growing Joyfully,” which served as the core resource for the session. Mr. D’Cunna elaborated on its key themes, emphasizing its role in guiding students through their formative years with a faith-based approach. The discussions and activities were centered around effectively utilizing the book to foster growth, understanding, and engagement among the students.

The event also included a Eucharistic celebration led by Fr. Gabriel Monis, adding a spiritual dimension to the training. The session concluded on a positive note, with participants discussing the implementation plan, making Deanery groups, and also expressing their appreciation for the enriching experience and the valuable knowledge imparted by Mr. D’Cunna.

At the end of the program, certificates were distributed to all attendees. This training marks a significant step in strengthening the trainers’ capabilities and reinforcing the commitment to quality remote preparation for students in Classes 7 to 10.
